Species Information
- Large tree growing up to about 10-25 m tall. Trunk has an enormous girth, usually 3-10 m wide but sometimes up to 28 m wide. Bark is thick, fibrous, and resistant to fire, termites, and drought. Flowers about 20 cm wide, white, with 5 large and crinkly petals, unpleasant scent, solitary in axillary positions, pendulous. Fruits are cylindrical capsules about 35 cm long and 13 cm wide, covered in yellowish-brown hairs and with whitish powdery pulp inside that covers small, 1 cm long, kidney-shaped, black seeds.
