Species Information
- Large evergreen shrubs or small trees growing up to 8 m tall, often forming thickets. Leaves 15-30 cm long, elliptic to obovate, margins shallow-toothed. Flowers 8-12 cm across, yellow with yellow stamens, downward-facing in branched clusters of 3-12. Fruits c. 5 cm across, pink to dull red, splitting open star-shaped when ripe into 5-8 carpels. Seeds covered with red arils.
- Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, and Borneo. Naturalised in Sri Lanka, Thailand, Western Java and the Philippines.
- In secondary forests and swampy habitats
