Species Information
- Close-clustering feather-leafed palm up to 8 m tall, green and yellow-orange ringed stem, 5-8 cm in diameter. The crownshaft is greyish green to almost silvery grey, slightly bulging at its base. Leaves 1.8-2.5 m long, beautifully arched; leaflets regularly arranged in a V-shaped plane. Inflorescence growing among the leaf sheaths, pendent, branched. Fruits ovoid, yellow-orange, c. 2.5 cm long.
- Endemic to Madagascar, critically endangered in the wild. Ironically, it is one of the most common palms in cultivation.
- Prefers tropical to subtropical climates but can grow in warm temperate areas as well
