Species Information
- Small to medium-sized evergreen tree growing up to 20 m tall. Leaves 6-18 cm long, lanceolate, pinkish when young and turning red when mature before dropping, margins toothed. Flowers 1.5-2.5 cm long, with pinkish-red sepals and white fringed petals, pendulous and in clusters. Fruits 2.5-4 cm long, ellipsoid, green, pendulous and with a hard-ellipsoid stone. Both flowers and fruits are attractive.
- Myanmar, Thailand, Indochina, Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Java, Bali, Borneo, and the Philippines
- Lowland to hill forests up to 1500m elevation, sometimes along streams
- In Peninsular Malaysia, E. grandiflorus is locally known from Kedah, where it is found in lowland forests to lower montane forests at about 100-1500 m altitude
