Species Information
- Small evergreen tree growing up to about 20 m tall. Bole around 35 cm in diameter. Leaf-bearing branches 5-20 mm in diameter, often arching upwards, with the leaves tightly compacted at the ends. Bark brown, slightly fissured. Leaves semi-circular in cross-section, petioles 5-150 by 1-9 mm.
- Northern South America: Colombia north to Costa Rica
- Found in humid woodlands and rainforests. Often in swampy soils and on gently sloping and sunny hills. It prefers moist, rich, and slightly acidic soil in light shade.
