  • Deciduous tree growing up to 40 m tall. Bole can be up to 150 cm in diameter, unbranched for up to 20 m, and usually buttressed.

4. Habitat and Ecology
  • Primary montane forests, especially on steep hillsides or open slopes, sometimes near streams and also occurring in ravines, mixed or secondary forests, and disturbed areas. It thrives in a majority of fertile, well-drained soils in sunny areas. Prefers rich loamy soil, growing well on calcareous soils. Young trees require some protection from direct sunlight but become more light-demanding as they grow older.
